About Guam
Guam is one of the most unique experiences in the world. The island has an estimated population of about 150,000. Its located about eight hours from Hawaii and three hours from Japan. We're a bit north of the equator, and are a part of the Micronesian Islands. Tourism continues to be the primary driving force in our economy. Most of our tourists are from Asia, specifically Japan.
On this isle, no longer than 35 miles from end to end, is a unique mixture of ethnicities, cultures and influences that combine to build five-star hotels in Tumon Bay and an ancient Chamorro village in Inarajan Bay. We enjoy most of the comforts of the modern world, speeding into this new millennium, but hardly blink an eye at the occasional power or water outage. Still the largest population on Guam are the Chamorros, the island's indigenous population. Today's Chamorros are a mix of various ethnicities and backgrounds. Chamorro is the native language of the Marianas, as well as one of the official languages on Guam. The other is English. The island's population is made up of many different ethnicities primarily of Asian, Caucasian and Micronesia descent.
